The seasonal tempo of woodland provides the perceptive visitor with
an ever-changing diversity of emotional and sensual triggers.
From the simplest of objects comes a richness for the senses - the fissured
texture of Scots Pine bark, the impossible colours of an autumnal evening,
the pattern of light and shadow as ice encases the now dormant ferns
and grasses. Woodland has an intimacy bordering on secrecy in which
the most rewarding aspects of the environment require a closeness and
a sensitivity to uncover the extraordinary visual drama that unfolds
all around.
It is unfortunate that so little natural woodland in the UK has survived
the ravages of years of abuse, yet what remains offers a magnificent
and varied sensory experience at any time of year.
